The story of this poster

A poster promoting the newly released book "Jagd in Flanderns Himmel" (Hunt in the sky of Flanders).

The poster depicts the infamous red-painted Fokker Dr.1 of Freiherr Manfred von Richthofen heavily engaged in a dog fight, supposedly in the skies over the Belgian region of Flanders. "The Red Baron" as von Richthofen was famously known by both comrades and enemies alike, became a highly successful ace during WW1 with a significant tally of victories before his early demise. Sometimes referred to as the ace of aces.

Even though the German arms industry soon pushed more modern figher planes into service, von Richthofen is said to have preferred his slower but more nimble Dr.1.

Obviously, his deeds intrigued the population and made a perfect propaganda tool in Germany. during the war and commercially afterwars.

The bottom text reads as follows:

"The flyer book of the front generation and young Germany! The 16 months of battle of the Richthofen squadron. From squadron Adjutant Bodenschatz, now Chief Adjutant of the General of Aviators. Introduced by Hermann Göring. In addition for the first time the war diary of the squadron and 96 pictures on plates. Stapled RM. 3,60, in linen RM 4,80. Available here!
