The story of this poster
Finnish WW2 photograph portraying one of Finlands most famous icons - C.G.E Mannerheim.
Mannerheim is widely regarded as the father of the modern Finland as we know it today.
He had a genuine military background and was the military leader of the "Whites" faction in the Finnish Civil War. Naturally though, he is most famous for his leadership of the armed Finnish forces during the Winter war and the Continuation war where he put up a remarkably potent defence against the massive Soviet attacks ordered by Stalin.
Marshal of Finland, and a Finnish statesman. He was also Regent of Finland 1918–1919 and the sixth President of Finland 1944–1946.
Interestingly enough, part of Mannerheim's military career was with the Russian army during 1891 to 1917, so he knew his enemy well.
Mannerheim was born 1867 in Finland and died 1951 in Switzerland.
