The story of this poster

A fast-paced poster advertising the Stockholm Grand Prix!

The race was held 29-30th of may 1948 at Skarpnäcks Motorbana south of Stockholm. The area was a former war-time airfield that was used as a race track after WW2.

The green car on the poster is most probably the race-favorite B. Bira's Simca-Gordini T15. B. Bira, who's real name was Birabongse Bhanduej, was a prince from Siam (now Thailand) and a recogized racing driver. He won the Grand Prix, but now without problems - he was disqualified just after finish due to the fact that another royalty, Prince Bertil of Sweden, had helped him in push-starting his car. One year later the decision was changed and Bhanduej got his victory!

"If our most highly qualified officers had been told to work out the most nonsensical high level organization for war which they could think of, they could not have produced anything more stupid that what we have at present."
