Product Description:
Confiance... Ses amputations se poursuivent méthodiquement(Eng. "Be reassured, the amputations (of his tentacles) are proceeding methodically.")

Vichy-French, anti-British poster created in 1942. An upset Winston Churchill (with the classic cigar) is depicted as an octopus, with tentacles representing British intervention around the world. The amputations mentioned refer to areas where the Axis powers cut away the former power of the British.

This is a very good example of a poster made to arouse French opinion against Britain and sympathy for Germany. In fresh memory for many Frenchmen were Britain's controversial operations against the port bases of Dakar and Mers-el-Kébir, the latter reduced a large number of ships and 1297 French sailors died.
