The story of this poster

The motif depicts a French soldier in the process of strangling the imperial eagle, an accepted symbol of the Kaiser and Imperial Germany. On the ground lays the classic German helmet for the time, the pickel hood or "pickelhaube". The struggle has been tough, his uniform is partly torn and bleeding from wounds made from the eagle's beak. But the imagery is clear - the eagle is not going anywhere and has met its match.

The poster urges the public to invest in war bonds through Société Générale, a French bank still operating today.
